INTRODUCTION
Chitipa is a rural development project designed to improve household food security and access to income for more than 7,400 households in the Chitipa and Karongo districts of North Malawi.
This work, being implemented in collaboration with local partners FOCUS and KRADD aims to improve smallholder farmers’ access to agricultural services through a farmer-to-farmer extension approach.
LOCATION Work is being carried out in the Karonga and Chitipa districts in the far north of Malawi.
OBJECTIVE The objective of the project is to increase food production and availability of food to 7,409 households in the designated areas, and to increase household income using diversified farm production.
The Chitipa project is also aiming to improve 2,250 smallholder farmers access to agricultural extension services, to increase awareness on HIV and AIDS, gender and capacity to cope with impacts in the targeted communities, and to strengthen the capacity of local governance structures, partner institutions and communities to engage, plan and manage in a responsive manner. |
